Desserto® is a highly sustainable plant-based vegan material, often distinguished as cactus leather, created as a cruelty-free and environmentally friendly alternative to animal leather and toxic synthetic materials. Developed by Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez in Mexico, this revolutionary biomaterial is made from the Nopal cactus (prickly pear), which is known for its low ecological footprint.

The Nopal cactus requires no irrigation system—relying solely on rainwater—and is grown without herbicides or pesticides. By mimicking the touch and feel of traditional leather while offering great softness at a glance, Desserto® performs exceptionally well across various industries, including fashion, footwear, leather goods, furniture, and automotive interiors. It is partially biodegradable and significantly reduces water consumption and carbon emissions compared to traditional textiles.
